What is Hypnosis?

It is a state of altered consciousness. There is a feeling of well being, and an ability to recall past events easily.  There is an acceptance of new ideas that are not in conflict with personal values. It is similar to meditation, where the body is relaxed but the mind has heightened awareness. Time is also distorted. An hour might seem like a few minutes.

Does Hypnosis only work on weak-minded people?

No. On the contrary, a well trained an experienced Hypnotherapist will tell you that the more intelligent a person is he/she responds to hypnosis easily. Afterall Hypnosis is a VOLUNTARY activity. A person who wants to be hypnotised can be hypnotised.

What can Hypnosis help with?

It helps to change attitudes which is the key to changing behaviour.  A person can change behaviours that would otherwise seem difficult, if not impossible to change. Please see "Help with" section for more details.

Will my mind be controlled?

No. By using hypnosis people gain greater control over their own minds and actions. It works through the power of suggestion. The subject has his\her own power to either accept or reject a suggestion even when in a trance. A person cannot be made to relinquish their own judgement or moral codes.

Is Hypnosis medically approved?

Under the Hypnotism Act of 1952 the British Government first recognised hypnosis as a viable therapeutic tool. Then in 1958 both the British and American Medical Associations sanctioned the official use of hypnosis by physicians. In the same year [1958] The American Psychiatric Association [APA] also approved hypnotherapy for use by professionably responsible individuals.
